Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility

A strong commitment to our communities, the creation of a positive environment and working to engage the community with technology are a matter of course for Berco of America.
In line with the long-standing traditions of Thyssen and Krupp, we regard ourselves as an active member of the community and support initiatives close to our locations through donations, sponsorships and other means. This benefits both sides – our companies and the community. We strengthen our social environment and at the same time create conditions which have an important influence on the sustainable success of the company.

Safety
For Berco, workplace health and safety goes beyond the mere observance of binding legislation. Berco’s objective is to promote a healthy and safe working environment, implement preventive measures and reduce to a minimum the risk of work-related accidents and injuries. Employees’ psychological well-being and motivation are also monitored in an active work-related stress program which, by means of sample-based surveys and individual interviews, aims to obtain and preserve a serene, productive and stimulating work environment. Recently, a new safety training program has been started, involving all managerial personnel and soon will be extended to all employees.

Employees
Berco has always seen its employees as the company’s real resource, who contribute in a decisive way to the achievement of the Group’s objectives. Berco observes legislation on employment contracts and, in every country where it operates, ensures that the rights stated in the “Universal declaration of human rights” are safeguarded. Berco will not tolerate illegal, child or forced labour in any form.

Economic responsibility
The strategy of the Berco group is to create profit and meet the expectations of everybody that it interacts with. It does this by means of investment plans which, for many years now, have committed the company to the development of technologies and production processes that improve the quality and reliability of its products. Complete customer satisfaction is one of the main goals of Berco’s business. Investments are also made in the development of new services and the opening of new foreign branches in order to cater to customers’ needs ever more rapidly and efficiently and provide them with the best way to develop their business.

Corruption and antitrust rules
Berco will not tolerate bribery and corruption and the violation of antitrust laws. For us, bribes and cartel agreements are not a means of winning business. We would rather forgo a contract and fail to achieve goals than act against the law. Infringements will not be tolerated and will result in sanctions against the persons concerned. Berco is aligned with the thyssenkrupp compliance program. All employees are requested to cooperate actively in their areas of responsibility in implementing the thyssenkrupp compliance program.

Social responsibility
Berco is convinced that it is a company’s role and duty to support local organisations endeavouring to satisfy the needs of the communities in which its employees live, work and do voluntary work. Local schemes and activities supported by the company include school projects, youth-work and assistance for the sick and infirm.

Total Quality
Total Quality has been chosen by the company as the way of guaranteeing the best product and a better service, in a context of continuous improvement. Since 1989, Berco has been committed to pursuing and promoting a Total Quality culture with its ISO 9001 certified quality management system.
